Colorado Gives Day is this Tuesday, December 4th. Not yet familiar with Colorado Gives Day? Colorado Gives Day was started in 2010 by the Community First Foundation, a nonprofit that encourages charitable giving. In 2010, Colorado Gives Day brought in $8.7 million to Colorado nonprofits and $12.8 million in 2011. The Community First Foundation created and maintains the GivingFirst.org website to facilitate online giving to hundreds of local Colorado nonprofits.
You can search for organizations to donate to on the Giving First website by a number of criteria including name, keyword, city, zipcode, and cause. In our own usage of the site we found that searching by zip code usually returned better results than searching by city name (especially if your city name is more than one word). For example, instead of searching for “Grand Junction” we entered the zip codes “81501 81502 81503 81504 81505 81506” in the search field (yes, we searched for all six in one search) and received some pretty good results.
Best of all, you can participate in Colorado Gives Day now by scheduling your donation. Just find the nonprofit you’d like to make a donation to and during the donation process select the “schedule a donation” box on the donation form (you will need to set up a donor account to use this feature).
